Torchlight Demo and release

Most people will have missed this game from Runic, but now that the demo is out, everyone can check it out without wasting their precious money. Now how can I describe this new game? I guess you could call it a Diablo2 clone, but then better. Diablo2 is rather old already while this new game has a lot of neat features and new graphics. The graphics are similar to the WoW style, but also that is not a problem.
This is the old fashioned Hack and Slash type of game, with the RPG elements you are used to. Level up, gain experience, gain reputation (fame) and spend skill points. Further: enhance your equipment, pick a pet, let the pet fight for you, cook for you (joke) and use that pet to sell items for you! (not a joke). No more running back to town because your bag pack is full, let your pet do it for you!
There are only a few cons: it's not multiplayer, and the main storyline only lasts for 10-20 hours. However, the game is cheap, has randomly generated dungeons and you can level up to 100, which will take a lot longer then those 20 hours. You can practically upgrade your enchants indefinitely, so that will not make the game boring either. When you are done with your character, you can retire him and start a new character with a new class. And while you do that, your new character inherited one item from your old character, giving him a head start in this new game.

I'm at level 7 now and spend a whole bunch of hours in that demo already. I like this game so far, I think I'll buy the real deal too :-) |
