For those who can't complete the last sentence, should really consider to stop playing "Put Put Saves The Zoo".
But, I can imagine this is the first time many of you hear about this "Counter-Strike: Pro Mod" so in this article I'm going to explain a bit more about this interesting new Source-engine based game and I'll also tell something about the history of both games.
Of course we all know Counter-Strike, and we'll all probably know that we're talking about a very old game here.
Some Counter-Strike history
As mentioned before, the first version of Counter-Strike was available on the 19th of July 1999. Even then it was already possible for gamers and/or developers to create their own Half-Life engine based mods. And that is what Minh "Gooseman" Le en Jess "Cliffe" Cliffe did, the concept and gameplay of this game was so renewing and innovating that it became very popular in an amazingly short period. And only a year after the first beta release VALVe notices the great potential behind this modification and decides to buy the whole Counter-Strike concept. The first version under it's new developer was released in November 2000.
From that moment on the game was constantly updated up to version 1.5, then VALVe decided to make a huge change in their current platform.
For that change they had to develop a completely new platform called Steam, this had to replace the WON system that wasn't flexible enough and had some major downsides for users and developers compared to what the new Steam system would be able to do.
So together with Steam, Counter-Strike 1.6 was launched. After that, development of the game was stopped because VALVe was developing Counter-Strike: Source (and Half-Life²) that had to replace the original Counter-Strike 1.6 .

Arianai | If they really managed to get that 1.5 recoil into plus some other facts it will totally blow off the current 1.6 and source. I'm just not that happy about their way of keeping the community informed about their current status, that's not how to get loyal players |

Laz | Let's just call this one disappointing Dave, Flopping Freddy, Impotent Ike, I could go on ...
development around this seems awfully quiet, normally your first release is only the beginning, after that the real work starts, the guys from insurgency have shown this, and are a school example of how it's done. Much respect for them, but the cspro mod guys, "plooiers" as we say locally ? |
